Forma Exchange

Web Design · Forma Exchange

Context

Forma Exchange is an open commons for art and design culture, built and run by the studio. An index of works across graphic design, typography, fashion, photography, film, architecture, contemporary art, and sound, with a membership that opens from a single emailed link.

Role

Forma Exchange is my own build: an open commons for art and design culture, an index where a library of works and the people reading them share one room. Nothing on the internet held both. The design problem was making a database feel like a reading room, and making membership feel like taking a seat.

Case Study

I organized the index as eight numbered shelves, graphic design through sound, each work carrying a line of argument. I set the voice in a serif over black, so the screen reads as a book jacket. Entry is one email and one link, no password, and the whole exchange opens from there. I designed and built the full product in code: Postgres and auth on Supabase, image storage on R2, house-sent mail, and a credit system that prices participation.

Notes

Eight numbered shelves, 85 works at launch, one line of argument each. Account opens with one email and one link, no password. Credits price participation: a seat earns, a thread spends. Serif voice over black, numbered index furniture. Full-stack build: Supabase, R2 image storage, house-sent auth mail.
