Cienfuegos Bottle Platform

Package Design · Cienfuegos

Context

Cienfuegos is a members-only tequila club: one release at a time, bottled in custom ceramic and numbered by hand against a thousand-count run. Members never find it in a store, so the bottle arrives as an object before it is ever a drink, and the packaging carries the entire brand argument on its own.

Role

The brief arrived as gold-accent heritage tequila: gold foil, green glass, a hacienda, a script wordmark. That is the default costume of the category and the reason a shelf of premium tequila reads as one continuous blur. Underneath the styling was a structural problem, because a members-only club releases variants constantly and the identity had to hold across all of them without a new mold each time.

Case Study

Reframed the brand around what fire leaves behind rather than the fire itself, which took gold off the table permanently and decided every material question after it. Specified matte black ceramic, textured rather than glazed, so the bottle reads as earth after a burn instead of as packaging. Moved every variable onto a leather band wrapping the lower third, so one mold and one ceramic body carry ten releases and the band alone changes. Numbered each bottle under the seal, which puts the membership story on the object instead of in the marketing.

Notes

Custom ceramic from Hidalgo, matte black, textured surface. Leather band is the only element that changes between variants. Blonde bartop cork under a numbered seal. Palette runs ash, sand, moss, clay, char, with no metallic in the build. Glass tier in clear flint, smoked, and amber answers an opaque-bottle complaint. Neck strip runs the brand lines vertically as typographic furniture.
